171 Intermediate Arabic I 3 credits

Pre-requisite: Passing an oral exam

This course is designed to improve students' reading and writing skills in the Arabic language. Emphasis is given to Qur'anic vocabulary, lexical and contextual meanings. The exercises are interwoven with Islamically oriented content.

272 Intermediate Arabic II 3 credits

Pre-requisite: Intermediate Arabic I

This course gives an emphasis on comprehension. Understanding the meaning of the Islamically based content is the core of the course, and reading and writing are the main primary skills of the course.

273 Intermediate Arabic III 3 credits

Pre-requisite: Intermediate Arabic II

This course begins the development of a direct understanding of the Arabic language, with no translations being given. The focus of the course is on the development of reading and writing skills.

374 Advanced Arabic I 3 credits

Pre-requisite: Intermediate Arabic III

This course develops the student’s direct understanding of the Arabic language. The focus again is on reading and writing skills with the introduction of Arabic poetry and grammar

375 Advanced Arabic II 3 credits

Pre-requisite: Advanced Arabic I

This course gives more focus on increasing the understanding of vocabulary in context through a greater use of the Qur’anic text; and it also introduces further studies in grammar

376 Advanced Arabic III 3 credits

Pre-requisite: Advanced Arabic II

This course provides a smooth transition from Classical Qur’anic Arabic to Modern Standard Arabic, through the use of the Prophet Muhammad’s biography, and it also introduces further grammatical studies.
