Classes on reading the Quran, knowing the basics of the knowledge about the Quran, as well as tafsir (explanation or exegesis) of the Quran.

111 Tajweed 2 credits

This course teaches the rules of Qur’anic recitation, enabling the recitation to be done in a way that retains the correct meaning and the rules of Arabic grammar.

112 Qur’anic Sciences 3 credits

This course discusses the Holy Qur’an in terms of its revelation, its collection, its miraculousness, the clear and unclear ayat (verses), its style, the Makki and Maddani ayat, and other sciences of relevance.

113 Analytical Tafseer I 3 credits

This course studies the 30th juz’ of the Qur’an (Surah 78 to Surah 114) according to analytical methods. It covers the general meaning of the verses, the occasions of revelation, and the background; as well as authentic Hadeeth that relate to the verses.

214 Analytical Tafseer II 3 credits

Pre-requisite: Analytical Tafseer I

This course studies the 1st juz’ of the Qur’an (Surahs 1 to 2: 141) according to analytical methods. It explores the general meaning of the verses, the occasions of revelation, the background, as well as authentic Hadeeth that relate to the verses.

Textbook: Tafseer Ibn Kathir(Vol. I), Al-Mubarakpuri (to be paid for in two installments, i.e. once with EBB214 and then with EBC316)

316 Analytical Tafseer III 3 credits

Pre-requisite: Analytical Tafseer II

This course studies the 2nd juz’ of the Qur’an (Surah 2: 142-252) according to analytical methods. It explores the general meaning of the verses, the occasions of revelation, the background, as well as authentic Hadeeth that relate to the verses.

Textbook: Tafseer Ibn Kathir(Vol. I), Al-Mubarakpuri (to be paid for in two installments, i.e. once with EBB214 and then with EBC316)

317 Thematic Tafseer 2 credits

This course involves a detailed study of some papers written on different subjects, based on the Qur’an and Sunnah, in order to train the students how to collect ayat and Hadith on a specific subject to form a paper or to prepare for a talk, utilizing guidance from the whole of the Shari’ah.
