Syllabus for Summer 2001

Intermediate Arabic III EBB 273 (3 credits)

Course Outline:

This course includes 10 chapters, each one looks at a topic from an Islamic perspective and each includes a two-page text for intensive reading. More than 14 various types of exercises are integrated to enhance comprehension, vocabulary building and using prepositions; as well as a deeper understanding of the Qur'an and short Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Simple grammar is introduced which is explained totally in Arabic. This book has no English translation of the vocabulary as in previous books.

Course Objectives:

To increase the understanding of Qur'anic verses by 10%
To understand longer texts than previously
To increase vocabulary by 500 words.
To write short paragraphs.
To summarize long passages.
To answer simple grammatical questions

Reading Surat Al-Baqarah through the course 3-4 times
Listening to some khutbas in Arabic

Study Tips:

Study the objective of each exercise well
Develop flash cards
Read Arabic on a daily basiss
Listen to the tapes well
And finally, call your teacher regularly
